It’ll be no surprise to hear that very few people actually like getting their headshots taken. My aim is to try and change that narrative! It’s not complicated - if you’re relaxed, comfortable and enjoying yourself, we will get great results.

There are no rules - everyone is different. My job is to capture shots that help you connect with the viewer; shots that are active and full of life. It’s not simply about showing people what you look like, it’s about showing people who you are.

Have a read through some FAQs below, and give me a shout if there’s anything you’d like to know that I haven’t covered.

I am also listed on Headshot Hunter, where I wrote an article about preparing for your headshot session.

*All sessions are socially distanced and COVID-safe*

How much does it cost?
£230 (£180 for students). Included in the price is your choice of 3 shots, which I will edit and re-touch where necessary. You can purchase extra edited shots for £20 each.

Where are you based?
I am based in Tottenham, North London.

What’s the best way to contact you?
Drop me an email at
ajw.headshots@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you quick sharpish. You can also ring me on 07739010615.

What should I wear?
This is a very individual question - what works for one doesn’t work for all. Wear what you love, what makes you feel great. If you want some guidance, what you would wear for an audition is a good place to start. Colours that contrast with skin tone are good; busy patterns or big logos are usually best avoided. But honestly, don’t hold back. Bring plenty of options.

How long will the session last?
Typically around 2 hours. There’s never any rush, and we won’t spend the whole time shooting. We’ll chat about what you’re looking for and there’ll be plenty of time for tea/coffee/cigarette breaks.

How many shots do you take?
I take enough, and then a few more for good measure.

Do you send me all the shots you take?
No. Part of my job is whittling down all the shots I take to a varied and select bunch that you then pick your favourites from. Believe me, looking through 600 shots of your own face is maddening. I take some of that madness away.

Can I look at the shots during our session?
It’s up to you, but I strongly advise you not to. Nothing good comes of it. If you don’t like what you see, you become self conscious. If you like what you see, you try to recreate what’s gone before. Neither of these things work in your favour.

How and when do I pay?
I prefer payment to be made by bank transfer no later than the morning of our session. If you’d rather pay by cash, you can do so on the day.

Do you use natural light or studio lights?
All sessions are shot utilising natural light.

Can I shave/change make-up and hair during the session?
Yes, absolutely. There’s space and time to do all these things. With regards shaving, be aware that following a wet shave the skin takes time to settle. Consider a close trim with a decent set of beard trimmers instead.

Can I share a session with someone else?
I offer shared sessions for students. If you and a fellow student want to, you can share a full priced (£230) session. You’ll get a choice of 2 edited shots each. These sessions will usually last a little longer than the normal 2 hours.

Any advice on hair/make-up?
This is another very individual question. Again, a good starting point is what you would wear to an audition and what makes you feel good. On the whole, I find that natural is best. If you’re going to wear lipstick, I’d usually recommend matte over gloss. Remember, you can always change/add to your make-up during the session.

I’ve woken up with a massive spot on my forehead. Should I cancel?
No, absolutely not! That’s what editing is there for. Temporary blemishes and spots are very easy to deal with. Don’t spend time trying to hide them, I can make them vanish later.

Can we listen to music during the session?
Definitely. Spotify is our friend.

How long will it be before I get my edited shots?
Your web gallery of selected shots will be online within 5 working days of our session (usually much quicker). Once you’ve picked your final shots, I’ll get the high-resolution, fully edited versions to you within 48 hours.
